Some random observations from this afternoon at the Ron Paul counter-convention:
The Target Center is between a third and a half full. One of the volunteers asked another if any more tickets were needed because she still had 15 left. The guy with her smirked and slowly shook his head no.
Grover Norquist (pictured) gave a speech which he crystallized his position as “Taxes bad. Guns good.”
Fox News in general and Sean Hannity in particular are subjected to enormous boos and catcalls whenever they appear on the screen during the various Ron Paul bio bits and campaign highlights that occur between speakers.
President George W. Bush is also getting royally roasted. Author Lew Rockwell, who used to be Paul’s chief of staff, said of Bush, “He hasn’t done a single decent thing for the country,” that he “tricked the people into voting for him twice.” As for the price of gas, Rockwell thundered, in reference to Bush, “your wars, your regulation, your failure to open up the market to anyone but your cronies have resulted in the quadrupling of energy prices.”

Is this a news article? Weren't there like 10 speakers? And he mentions… 2? What about the main speaker: Ron Paul? What is the point of publishing the stub of an article?

You should clarify that the center was 1/3 - 1/2 full for the minor speakers leading up to the keynote. Obviously no one expected standing room only for the ENTIRE 9 hour program. It filled up a bit for people like Jesse Ventura and Gary Johnson. Then when Ron Paul finally spoke the center was pretty packed.

What? You mean his grassroots supporters could spring for the cash to fly all the way to Minneapolis and miss a week of work? Of course they couldn't. (Remember the $100 average contributions?) His supporters (in which I, obviously, include myself) are not beltway/establishment types. If the rally had been on my side of the country, I would've made it. And, I'm sorry I missed it—but, I did watch online, and was not disappointed.
I think the Republicans will feel the real number of RP supporters come November, though. The Palin ploy ain't working–at least not on me. And, they will totally deserve the gut shot they get on election day, too.
BTW, I loved Lew Rockwell's speech on renouncing the “conservative” label and all it stands for. He's right: cut those strands to right-wing socialism. I have and it feels great.

I'm sure there were many people like myself that wanted to be there but could not. But we are out here paying attention, educating our selves, spreading the message and voting! God Bless all who are joining in our cause and believe like our Founding Fathers. Thank You for your efforts .
GIVE US LIBERTY!!!

Good for Lew Rockwell, if anything I thought he was too soft on them. I only regret not being there.

I made the DC march in July. It was great! Couldn't make this one. There will be more and they will be bigger and better. If you didn't get a chance to be at one of these do yourself a favor and make plans for the next one. Stay involved. I Have already started saving. See you there.

This country is starting to wake up and realize that we can’t continue down the same path the republicans and democrats have been leading us. I’m excited that more people are hearing Ron Paul’s message of freedom and personal responsibility and I think we will finally start to see some change, real change, in our government and in the next election cycle.

britt I am really disturbed. Why are you bringing up your homosexual love of hairy fat men with your gay pride icon? This is offensive and does not belong on an impartial news service.

I listened to Lew, and cheered, in my living room. I have never heard him raise his voice, but be that his eloquence so strong that it is thundering to a slave like Robson, I am glad. When Dr. Paul finally spoke the arena was jam packed. It was a lot of commentary for but one day.
Most importantly Democratic-Republicans were laissez-faire, and hard money. What a stark contrast to the current tyranny we live under.
Grand Cheers; to all the brave patriots that spoke!

I am a Ron Paul supporter. My only complaint about his speech is that it meandered a little…BUT it was full of policy positions, which is great

…..And not one mention of the Constitution at the RNC and how the Republicans are going to strictly obey it. Yet, the RNC and DNC each wasted 16.8 million dollars of taxpayers money to run their shows and The Rally for the Republic was paid for privately and voluntarily.
As another point: consider the protests that were going on around the RNC and all of the police that were required for protection. Yet, there were no protests around the Rally for the Republic, there were no riots and no police baracades, no one got hurt. It was a rally of peace.

“Thundered”? Seriously? Did you even watch Lew Rockwell's speech?
Comment posted September 3, 2008 @ 9:21 am
I was there when Dr. Paul gave his speech. I figured it would be the most attended portion of the event. I noted carefully the full vs. empty seats. The Target center seats were about 2/3 full and the floor was full. I also know that probably several hundred people had left by 7:30 pm due to other committments.

It's the TRUTH that “thunders” and Lew Rockwell never fails to satisfy;
Conservatism OUT.
Liberty IN.
“I get on my knees and pray we don't get fooled again!”

Lew Rockwell is correct; his entire speech sould be viewed.

The size of the crowd is irrelevant to the moral fact that taxes are bad and guns are good and Sean Hannity is a liar and a cheat. I heard Rockwell's address. He didn't “thunder” at all. He spoke calmly throughout. Perhaps you meant that his message was of thunderous import. Quite so.
Comment posted September 3, 2008 @ 6:56 pm
It is a bit of hilarity that one would characterize Lew Rockwell's speaking as “thundering.” He has to be one of the most mild-mannered speakers I've heard. I watched Lew's speech before reading this, and I recall having thought he was pretty soft spoken. Nice try… then again, not really.
